What is Carn the kids?

“Carn the Kids” is all about providing some fun for kids with events and fundraising.

Being a kid is supposed to be fun, but some kids don’t always have the same opportunities to enjoy themselves as most.

LeasePlan came up with Carn the Kids in an effort to provide fun stuff to some of the kids who might sometimes miss out.

A chat with Australian Rules great, Bob Skilton and the Royal Children’s Hospital in 2003 got all of this started.

Bob suggested that our major sponsorship of the AFL’s Western Bulldogs was a great opportunity to do something simple for kids he saw every day in the hospital that were missing out on a fun day out at the footy – something so many kids in Australia take for granted.

We decided it would be both simple and rewarding to partner with kids’ organisations and provide kids who may have never had the chance, the possibility to experience a fun day out at a football match: the sights, the smells, the sounds - accompanied by the quintessential Aussie meat pie.

Since the first game of footy with 200 kids and carers, the program has grown and delivered many ‘fun days out’ with new partners, including the North Melbourne Football Club, the Melbourne Victory Football Club, the National Lacrosse League All Stars game and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
